As the result of a drunken decision in Prague a year earlier, in September 2000 we ditched the jobs, let out our flat in London and went off on our bikes. Having never been cycle touring before we started in an culturally easy but remarkably hilly country - New Zealand. A brief spell in Australia was followed by a few days in Thailand. From there we went from the sublime to the ridiculous by taking on Burma, then back to relative normality in Thailand again, Laos, Thailand again and Malaysia.
